CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method that releases the tissues and membranes in and around the craniosacral system.  The craniosacral system comprises the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal core.

CST enhances the production, distribution and flow of the cerebrospinal fluid to improve the functioning of the nervous system.  Imbalance or dysfunction of this system can affect the development and functioning of the brain and spinal cord which can affect the sensory, motor and/or neurological conditions.

CST influences relaxation by calming the autonomic nervous system, the part responsible for the ‘fight or flight’ response.  CST complements the body's natural healing processes by influencing our immune system, sense of wellbeing and reducing stress. The light touch used in CST makes it a safe approach for adults and children of all ages.

FAQ's

What does a CST session look like?

A CST session will take place in my warm and relaxing therapy room.  During the appointment clients remain fully clothed lying down on a treatment table.  If its your first appointment we will talk through your health history and any goals you have.  Once on the treatment table I will carry out an assessment of your body and CranioSacral system moving and positioning myself either at your feet, torso or head.  Seating positions can be offer for anybody who has difficulty lying on a treatment table.  Each session is personalised on the day so no two sessions may be the same.

How long do appointments last?

A first consultation takes around 75 minutes and this includes your first CST session.  Follow up appointments typically last 60 minutes.

For children (2-15yrs) the appointment timings can be flexible however the first appointment will be around 45 minutes with usually followed by 30 minute appointments.  Age and any medical conditions are taken into consideration and will be discussed at your first appointment.  A parent or guardian must be present during their child's appointment.

Is CST really safe for everyone?

Yes, adults and children of any age can receive CST.  Certain health conditions may have to be taken into consideration and on occasion CST may not be suitable.  I am currently trained to carry out CST on children from 2+ years.  If you require CST for an infant feel free to contact me and I can put you in touch with someone qualified.  Still unsure give me a call or drop me a line and we can discuss further.
